Beyond the device: How does our funding team get so many devices covered?

After getting her first speech device approved for financial coverage, a California-based speech language pathologist shared her excitement: “I can’t believe you experience this regularly! This is the first time I’ve successfully gotten a device approved, and I could genuinely cry.”

Her comments emphasize two truths about the AAC device funding process:

1. Getting a device covered is hard. Insurance and funding in the United States is complex, always changing, and different everywhere. Especially if you’re not familiar with healthcare and medical device coverage in a particular region, it can become extremely frustrating to try to stay on top of the latest developments.
