TD Pilot Switch Support
TD Pilot: Using a Switch with Eye Gaze
You can use a switch with your TD Pilot to activate selections while using eye gaze. This gives you another way to “click” items on the screen.
Using a Wired Switch (Built-in Switch Jacks)
How it works
-
Switch 1 acts like a mouse click:
- Tap = select
- Hold = click and drag (when needed)
- Switch 2 can be set up to perform other actions (like going back, opening menus, etc.)
If you want to use the gaze with switch:
- Go to Settings → Accessibility → Touch → AssistiveTouch → Dwell Control
- Turn Dwell Control OFF
Customize Switch 2
- Go to Settings → Accessibility → Touch → AssistiveTouch → Devices → Tobii Dynavox Pilot
- Select Customize Additional Buttons
Using a Switch in Apps
TD Snap
- Set Access Method to Eye Gaze
- Set Selection Type to Switch
TD Talk
- Open Settings → Activation
- Select Gaze & Switch
- Go back, then open Keyboard
- Set Gaze & Switch again
- Exit settings
Using a Bluetooth Switch
Using with iOS (AssistiveTouch)
- Your switch must send mouse clicks to work for activation
- Example: AbleNet Blue2
How it works:
- Left-click = select
- Right-click = can be customized in AssistiveTouch settings
Using with TD Snap
- Configure your switch to send Space or Enter
- In TD Snap:
- Go to User → Access Method
- Make sure Eye Gaze is selected
- Set Selection Type to match your switch
Using with TD Talk
- Open Settings → Activation
- Select Gaze & Switch
- Under Switch Input, choose the key your switch sends (e.g., Space or Enter)
- Go back, then open Keyboard
- Set Gaze & Switch
- Exit settings
Important Limitation
A Bluetooth switch cannot be used for activation in both TD Snap / TD Talk and AssistiveTouch at the same time due to iOS limitations.
Scanning with a Switch
iOS Switch Control
- The TD Pilot’s built-in switch jacks are not supported for iOS Switch Control scanning
TD Snap
- Supports 1-switch or 2-switch scanning
- Set this under:
- User → Access Method → Scanning
TD Talk
- Has limited support for scanning using iOS Switch Control
Summary
- Switches can be used instead of dwell for selection
- Wired switches work directly with TD Pilot
- Bluetooth switches must be configured correctly (mouse click or key press)
- Some features depend on iOS limitations
