Supporting Emergent Literacy with Boardmaker 7
Description Recent research continues to confirm what educators already know: strong emergent literacy skills lay the foundation for future reading and language success. Emergent literacy includes early skills such as phonological awareness, print knowledge, and oral language, all of which are strongly linked to later reading achievement for learners. In this practical session, learners will explore how Boardmaker 7® can be used to create engaging and meaningful literacy experiences across school, home, and therapy settings. As the world’s leading symbol-based teaching solution, Boardmaker® supports learning and communication through its trove of customizable materials. With access to more than 85,000 PCS® (Picture Communication Symbols), Boardmaker 7 provides flexible, time-saving tools that can help educators, families, and clinicians create activities that support emergent literacy, communication, engagement, and access for diverse learners. As part of our5th Annual Winter Conference, this session will give learners practical, fun-to-implement ideas they can use to increase opportunities for students and children to actively participate in rich reading experiences. Upon successful completion, learners will be able to: 1. Define emergent literacy 2. Identify benefits of Boardmaker 7 software for emergent literacy learners 3. Create three activities to support literacy learning ASHA information: If you are an ASHA member and want Tobii Dynavox to report your course completion to ASHA, you will be required to complete the Course Completion Form that will be provided virtually at the end of today’s session.
