Winter Conference

AAC's Role in Aphasia Therapy: Supporting Communication and Recovery

Description

AAC helps people with aphasia communicate, but it can also be a powerful therapeutic tool. In this practical session, learners will explore how TD Snap Aphasia and Boardmaker can support both communication and recovery as part of aphasia intervention. Participants will review evidence supporting the use of AAC in aphasia therapy and explore practical strategies for integrating AAC into treatment sessions. Additionally, learners will explore ways to create and find engaging Boardmaker activities that support communication, participation, and therapeutic goals.

As part of our 5th Annual Winter Conference, this session will give clinicians practical ideas and resources they can bring directly into their therapy toolbox. Participants will also be introduced to a newresource designed to support SLPs and the broader care circle of individuals using TD Snap Aphasia.

Upon successful completion, participants will be able to:

  • Describe research that supports AAC as an evidence-based therapeutic technique.
  • Identify 5 specific strategies for implementing TD Snap and Boardmaker into therapy sessions for people with aphasia.
  • Describe how to find and create therapeutic Boardmaker activities for people with aphasia
