Support Learning in Core Vocab and Boardmaker Online NYC DOE (Private)

Description

In our morning session we will introduce a core word strategy supporting both communication and literacy development for students with complex communication needs. We will discuss research and best practices  as we explore core vocabulary with Snap + Core First software and introduce core lesson plans to support language and literacy development. In the afternoon we will focus on implementing evidence-based curriculum for students with disabilities. Premade, accessible curriculum addressing English Language Arts (ELA) standards will be reviewed, along with suggestions for science instruction and learning.  Sample unit and Boardmaker templates for individualized lessons and practice will be reviewed along with performance tracking methods for the classroom.

Learning Objectives: Upon successful completion, participants will be able to:

  • List three language characteristics of a core word strategy.
  • Describe two types of implementation strategies that support literacy development through the use of core words.
  • List three templates for creating individualized activities to support science instruction in the classroom.
  • Describe performance monitoring with student data, association with standards, and alignment with student IEP goals.
