Pathways:Guiding You Through the Journey of AAC(Kansas City MO)Private

Description

Are you a therapist, parent, or teacher that is new to Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC)? Are you familiar with AAC but feeling stuck in your approach? Do you need to expand your knowledge of best practices for AAC implementation? Tobii Dynavox provides a free tool, Pathways for Core First, that can help you get started, expand your skill set, and provide best practices for AAC. This course will explore Pathways for Core First using lecture, demonstration, and hands on activities. Case studies and videos will be used to facilitate deeper understanding of the available tools. We will follow the journey of a beginning AAC user as they start their path with AAC and continue to grow their skills. We will also observe how Pathways can be used with more experienced users. In addition, we will discuss the importance of the communication partner and how Pathways supports all those involved in using AAC for successful communication.

Learning Outcomes: Upon successful completion, participants will be able to:

·        Describe one resource that is available in each of the six sections of Pathways for Core First

·        Choose and access two resources to benefit a new user of AAC, given a case study

·        Choose and access two resources to support communication and growth of an experienced user of AAC, given a case study

Bring a personal tablet/device with Pathways for Core First already downloaded to follow along during this event. Andrew Lewis will email instructions for downloading.
